Working at Home: Part-Time or Full-Time?

Working at Home: Part-Time or Full-Time?

making the decision that works for you

When planning a job that involves working from home, one decision that needs to be made is whether it will be part-time or full-time work. Thinking about a few questions can help you decide which option is best for you.

1. How much experience do you have with this particular type of work?

2. How much money do you need to make?

3. If you will be working as an independent contractor, how knowledgeable are you about companies' or clients' schedules and deadlines?

4. What do you have in the line of networking?

5. Are you organized?

The first question can be tricky if you have been an "employee," rather than "self-employed." As an example, there are many differences between working in someone else's flower shop and operating one from your own home.

The second question can include "and can you meet this goal without any other source of income?" Depending upon how motivated you, you may be surprised to find the answer is "yes." The key is to know how much money you need to make, and be willing to put the time and effort into reaching that goal.

There are a number of reasons a person who works from home may decide doing it on a part-time basis is the best option. Knowing you have a steady, secure source of income from an outside job is one reason. However, this should not deter anyone from taking on a work-from-home job on a full-time basis. With a little time and experience, it can be a successful venture.
